Mineral Shows - Trinity Mineral Co

The theme this year for the main show diplays was Minerals from Africa. Without a doubt the case that stole the show as that of Jim & Gail Spann. The Smithsonian case was full of great things too but the Spanns just don't have a ceiling when it comes to good rocks.

Four rows of occular joy!

An insanely large crystal of jeremejevite from Namibia! The surrounding specimens are equally as stunning.

A very poor picture of a GREAT euclase specimen.

Wulfenite on cobaltoan dolomite from Tsumeb.

This thing more or less made my mouth water and eyes glaze over.

The New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources had an exceptional case of African minerals.

A very nice cuproslkodowskite in the center.

Harvard put a beautiful case of minerals from Africa in the show.

The arsentsumebite ps mimetite is incredible!

As was this adamite from Tsumeb.

I am not sure whose case this was but it was well done.

It was impossible not to notice this little beast.

Or this electric blue Cuprian Smithsonite.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science had a very fine case of African minerals.

A gorgeous vanadinite from Morocco.

A deep ruby red rhodo from N'Chwaning.

You can always count on the Smithsonian Institution to go all out with information as well a gorgeous specimens.

A huge crystal of marialite (variety of scapolite) from Tanzania.

A large pseudomorph of malachite after azurite with the highly desired bull's eye pattern.

A huge crystal of diamond. A few years ago Paul Pohwat put the crystal in my hand and it was ice cold. Diamond is one of the finest conductors of heat there is.
When it comes into contact with your skin it starts to absorb the heat and it feels just like an ice cube. Hence the nick name for diamond you've probably heard is "ice".
